- W2061903100 abstract "The joint application of various techniques of surface analysis (XPS, UPS, AES and work function measurements) allowed us to pinpoint the initial stages in the oxidation of polycrystalline chromium in the temperature range 180–720 K. At weak exposures ( < 10 L) the oxygen was dissociatively adsorbed without providing any information on the amount of oxygen involved or the sites of adsorption (chemisorption vs. physical interaction due to the roughness of the surface). At stronger exposures the oxide Cr2 O3 is observed to form, and this is covered by a layer of chemisorbed oxygen at ordinary temperatures and below. The maximum thickness of the oxide layer depends on the temperature, as would be expected from the logarithmic oxidation kinetics. The change in shape of the Auger peaks of chromium during oxidation has been interpreted in terms of interatomic transitions made via the 2p levels of oxygen. La conjonction de différentes techniques d'analyse de surface (SPX, SPU, SEA, mesure du travail d'extraction électronique) nous a permis de préciser les étapes initiales de l'oxydation du chrome polycristallin entre 180 K et 720 K. A faible exposition (inférieure à 10 L; L = Langmuir) l'oxygène est adsorbé de façon dissociative sans que nous puissions préciser les quantités d'oxygène mises en jeu dans ce processus ni les sites d'adsorption de l'oxygène (chimisorption—incorporation ou intervention de la rugosité de surface). A plus forte exposition, on observe la croissance de l'oxyde Cr2O3 qui est recouvert, à température ordinaire et en-dessous par une couche d'oxygène chimisorbé. L'épaisseur maximale de la couche d'oxyde formée dépend de la température conformément à ce que l'on pouvait prévoir à partir d'une cinétique d'oxydation du type logarithmique. Le changement de forme des pics Auger du chrome pendant l'oxydation a été interprété en termes de transitions interatomiques faisant intervenir lea niveaux 2p de l'oxygène." @default.
