• W2061922947 abstract "Abstract The equilibrium and relaxation electro-optical properties of solutions of fractions with various molecular masses prepared from two random copolymers have been studied: the copolymers were formed from the phenylmethacrylyl ester of cetyloxybenzoic acid and cetylmethacrylate, the average ration of the components in the fractions being 7 : 3 and 1 : 1 respectively. It has been established that the flow birefringence and the birefringence in an electric field have relaxation times that depend in essentially different ways on the molecular weight of the copolymers. The data obtained have been used in an analysis of the kinetic flexibility (rigidity) of the macromolecules. It has been shown that it is characteristic of the two copolymers investigated that the Kerr constant depends in the same way on the molecular weight of the fractions. This result is a consequence of the decrease in the degree of intramolecular liquid crystal order as the proportion of cetylmethacrylate in the molecules of the random copolymers is increased." @default.
