- W2061971515 abstract "Abstract Anyone with common sense and a modicum of medical knowledge readily appreciates that a patient with typical angina and a positive stress test result has a high likelihood of having coronary artery disease (CAD), and that an asymptomatic patient with a negative stress test has a low likelihood of CAD. 1 Conflicting data are another matter. How does one interpret a negative stress test result in a patient with typical angina, or a positive test in an asymptomatic patient? Although Bayes' theorem provides us with the formal means to resolve such interpretive conflicts, 1 it is more often used only as a pedagogic device. A better understanding of the way physicians interpret conflicting information would be helpful in designing more cost-effective testing strategies. This study determines how cardiologists interpret conflicting information from the patient history and the stress electrocardiogram with respect to the diagnosis of CAD." @default.
