- W2061979893 abstract "The advantages and disadvantages of the use of gas-liquid chromatographic (GLC) techniques for the estimation of oestrogens in various biological fluids in routine clinical work are discussed. The purification needed before GLC is usually greater than if a colorimetric final estimation is carried out. Adequately used, the GLC techniques are generally more specific than conventional procedures but they are less suitable for routine clinical determinations. However, in connection with special clinical cases, GLC, notably in combination with mass spectrometry, may be able to solve problems, which cannot otherwise be clarified. A trend towards specific measurement of certain oestrogen metabolites by GLC is expected to occur. As a result of this trend a method for the simultaneous estimation of oestriol and 15α-hydroxyoestriol in pregnancy urine for the monitoring of foetal well-being has been developed. In addition, results obtained with a method for the determination of 10–12 oestrogens in various biological fluids in pregnancy combined with mass-spectrometric studies, show the great potentiality of this technique when investigating problems related to oestrogen metabolism in health and disease." @default.
