Homovanillic acid levels were significantly increased in these patients, while 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenylethylene glycol and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid were not significantly altered, as compared with controls. In patients with febrile convulsion and status epilepticus who were examined during or within a few hours after convulsions, the same phenomenon was evident. The increased level of dopamine metabolite was closely related to the occurrence of convulsions and is considered to be a secondary phenomenon. RÉSUMÉ Afin de déterminer le rô1e de la noradrénaline, de la dopamine et de la sérotonine dans le cerveau des enfants présentant des spasmes infantiles, le taux des pnncipaux métabolites respectifs a été mesuré dans le liquide céphalo rachidien. Les taux de Ľacide homovanillique ont été trouvés significativement augmentés chez les enfants, tandis que les taux du 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phényléthylène glycol et de Ľacide 5-hy-droxyindole-acetique n'étaient pas significativement modifiés par rapport aux sujets de contrôle. Chez les patients avec convulsions fébriles et état de mal épileptique qui furent examinés pendant leurs convulsions ou quelques heures après, le même phénomène a été observé. Le niveau accru du métabolite de la dopamine était étroitement reliéà la survenue des convulsions et doit être considéré comme un phénomène secondaire. RESUMEN Con objeto de determinar el papel de la noradrenalina, de la dopamina y de la serotonina en el cerebro de pacientes con espasmos infantiles, se examinaron los niveles de los respectivos metabolitos mayores en el líquido céfalorraquideo (CSF). Los niveles de ácido homovanilico estaban significativamente elevados en estos pacientes, mientras que el 3-metoxi-4-hidroxi-feniletileno glicol y el ácido 5-hidroxindol-acético no mostraron alteraciones cuando se compararon con controles. En enfermos con convulsiones febriles y en status epilepticus, examinados durante la convulsión o antes de que hubiesen trascurrido unas pocas horas, fue evidente el mismo fenómeno. El aumento en el nivel de los metabolitos de la dopamina estaba estrechamente relacionado con las convulsiones mismas y se consideró un fendmenó secundario. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Um die Rolle des Noradrenalins, Dopamins und Serotonins im Gehirn von Patienten mit BNS-Krämp-fen kennenzulernen, werden die Spiegel ihrer Hauptmetaboliten im Liquor (CSF) untersucht. Die Spiegel der Homovanillinsäure waren signifikant erhöht, während 3-Methoxy-4-Hydroxy-Phenylaethylen Glycol und 5-Hydroxyindolessigsäure bei Patienten gegenüber Kontrollen nicht signifikant verändert waren. Bei Patienten mit Fieberkrampf und Status epilepticus, die während oder einige Stunden nach den Krämpfen untersucht wurden, erhielt man dasselbe Ergebnis. Der erhöhte Spiegel des Dopaminmetaboliten korrelierte eng mit den Krämpfen und ist offenbar ein Sekundärphänomen." @default.
