In Y2O2S and La2O2S, the emitting 5D states are directly fed; in Y2O3, higher 4f states are fed. In either case, the CTS are positioned such that the preferred 4f states are in resonance near the CTS minimum, as if thermalization within the CTS precedes 4f feeding. The low energy of the CTS in the oxysulfides (the CTS minimum is near that of 5D3 allows the5D states to come into thermal contact with the CTS. The resultant thermal emptying of the 5D states via the CTS produces a sequential quenching of the 5D emissions. Placements of the CTS derived from 5D quenching data and from CTS absorption data agree." @default.
