- W2063455097 abstract "Peak contact stresses were evaluated in eight human cadaver ankle joints. In the first set of experiments, pressures within normal joints were assessed and, in the second set, they were assessed after simulated malunions in the form of lengthening and shortening of the fibula by 2 mm. Peak contact stresses were located on the anterolateral aspect of the talus in normal specimens. In the shortened specimens, this moved to the anterior aspect and, in the lengthened specimens, to the postero-lateral aspect of the talus. Neither the area of contact nor the magnitude of the peak contact stress changed significantly between normal specimens and those with simulated malunions. The fact that contact area and the magnitude of the peak contact stress did not change, but the location of the peak contact stress did, suggests that it may be a change in the location of the peak contact stress to an area that is less well adapted to cope with it that is responsible for the genesis of post-traumatic osteoarthritis of the ankle joint." @default.
