- W2063662717 abstract "FTIR spectroscopy and pyridine adsorption were used to characterize two Tio2-based pigmentary systems, which differ for the presence/absence of Zn among the additives. The two Tio2 systems were studied in their final preparative stages, i.e., after firing at 1180 K, and after the neutral leaching step. On both systems P2o5 forms surface-related anionic species, of variable and complex spectral features, which involve the surface OH termination of the Tio2 crystallites and are eliminated during the leaching process. K tends to accumulate at the surface during the final firing step, and modifies the Lewis acidic properties of Tio2, in that less surface Ti atoms become available for a coordinatively unsaturated cationic configuration. All surface K is eliminated during the leaching process. Zn atoms also collect at the surface during the high temperature calcination, and are not eliminated by the leaching process, but form a stable surface phase which changes the OH termination of the crystallites and the distribution of cations at the surface, so that the Lewis acidic properties of Tio2 are modified. Evidence was found for the formation of two families of Ti4+ centres of different Lewis acidity at the surface of polydispersed sintered Tio2 systems." @default.
