- W2064156637 abstract "1. Ethanol administration to rats for 4–6 weeks increased hepatic triglyceride, cholesterol, phosphatidylcholine and, in some instances, phosphatidylethanolamine, in comparison with control rats fed an isocaloric liquid diet. Serum concentrations of these lipids were also increased in ethanol-treated rats. 2. Ethanol increased [14C]glycerol incorporation into hepatic triglyceride, phosphatidylcholine and, to a much lesser extent, phosphatidylethanolamine during the first 2 h after isotope administration. 3. Measurements of half-time values for hepatic glycerolipids, obtained using [3H]glycerol, demonstrated that ethanol administration increased the absolute turnover rates of triglyceride and phosphatidylcholine, and increased slightly both absolute and fractional turnover rates of phosphatidylethanolamine. The fractional turnover rates of triglyceride and phosphatidylcholine in ethanol-treated rats were lower, however, than in controls. 4. These observations suggest that the accumulation of glycerolipids in the liver of ethanol-treated rats is due to a relatively greater increase in their rates of synthesis than in their rates of removal." @default.
