- W2064530260 abstract "K562 is sensitive to the natural killer (NK) effect of blood lymphocytes. When cultured alone, the lymphocytes lose this activity. When cultured with K562 (MKC) or with allogeneic lymphocytes (MLC) anti-K562 cytotoxicity is maintained. In order to study the relationship of the cytotoxicity of fresh and cultured lymphocytes, subsets characterized for NK activity were allowed to react in the mixed cultures. Populations rich in T cells and devoid of NK effect responded well in MLC with concomitant generation of cytotoxicity to K562. The same fractions failed to respond or responded weakly in MKC, unless supernatant from MLC was added to the culture. The results showed that at least part of the anti-K562 activity in the mixed cultures is not due to maintenance of NK but is newly generated from precursors which belong to the T subset. The strength of cytotoxicity in various cultures is related to the efficiency of the activation as judged by blastogenesis, which indicates that killing of K562 is a characteristic of T lymphocytes in a certain stage of activation." @default.
