- W2064749138 abstract "Abstract The serum aspartate aminotransferase activity during a 48-h hyperglucidic diet (completed by glucose perfusion) was followed in 53 patients with neoplasia or neoplastic antecedents and 42 patients with benign tumours or non-tumoral diseases. Compared with the values found before the diet was instituted, an increase of aspartate aminotransferase was observed in 87% of the patients with malignant tumours, in 45 % of the patients with metastases, in 60 % of the patients with neo- plastic antecedents but without signs of recurrence or metastasis, in 40% of the patients with benign tumours or non-tumoral diseases, as well as in 100% of the patients with gastric or duodenal ulcer. The results show that aspartate aminotransferase activity changes in condi- tions of a hyperglucidic diet, though increasing the significance limit for cancer as compared to static determinations, have but limited value as a test for neoplastic processes, because a simular aspartate aminotransferase activity increase can be ob- served also in some non-tumoral diseases (ulcers)." @default.
