- W2064881919 abstract "Abstract The powerfull Rosenbrock search technique, which optimize both the directions of search using Gram-Schmidt procedure and the step size using Fibonacci line search method has been used to optimize the drilling program of an oil well drilled in BAI-HASSAN oil field, KIRKUK IRAQ, using the two dimensional drilling model of Galle and Woods. This model shows the effect of the two major controlable variables, weight on bit and rotary speed, on the drilling rate while considering the other controllable variables such as; mud properties, hydrostatic pressure, hydraulic design, and bit selection pressure, hydraulic design, and bit selection are well chosen. Also the effect of tooth dullness on the drilling rate is considered in this drilling model. Increasing the weight on bit with a little increase or decrease in rotary speed gave a significant decrease in the drilling cost for most bit run. A 48% reduction in the total drilling cost and a 97 hours saving in the total drilling time can be obtained by optimizing the drilling program of any well that will be drilled in the same formations using the same types and sizes of bits, the same drilling fluid properties, and the same hydraulics program. properties, and the same hydraulics program. The Rosenbrock search method using Fibonacci line search reached to almost the same optimum drilling cost for most bit runs from different starting points that are far away from the optimum, which shows the ability of this technique to solve and optimize the drilling function given by Galle and Woods. Introduction Drilling rate is a function of a large number of controllable and uncontrollable variables. The controllable variables are bit weight rotary speed, hydraulics, drilling fluid properties, and bit type and size. Some of the uncontrollable variables are formation to be drilled, depth and pore pressure. Bit weight and rotary speed are pore pressure. Bit weight and rotary speed are of particular interest because of their direct effect on penetration rate. Optimized drilling is a system of press electing the magnitude of controllable drilling presselecting the magnitude of controllable drilling variables to maximize footage or minimize drilling cost. Galle and Woods presented three fundamental relationships the first on. relates drilling rat directly to the weight on bit, the rotary speed, and formation drillability and inversly to the tooth dullness. The second relationship relates rate of tooth dullness directly to the rotary speed, the weight on bit, and formation abrasiveness and inversly to tooth dullness. The third equation relates rate of bearing wear directly to the rotary speed and the weight on bit and inversly to the drilling fluid parameter. The purpose of this research is to minimize the cost of drilling a well in BAI—HASSAN oil field, KIRKUK-IRAQ, using Galle and Woods drilling model. The powerfull optimization search technique of Rosenbrock using Fibonacci line search method has been used to optimize the rotary speed and the weight on bit in order to get the minimum drilling cost for the well of given bit records. BASIC RELATIONS To find the most economical weight on bit and rotary speed to run on a rock bit, it is necessary to know the following basic relationships:The relation between drilling rate and the factors that affect it.The relation between rate of dulling of the cutting structure of the bit and the factors that affect it.The relation between bearing wear rate and the factors that affect it. A laboratory results were used and modified by Galle and Woods to agree with the field experience in order to develop the above relations which are: (A) The drilling rate equation; df/dT = CfWk r / ap....................(1) P. 369" @default.
