- W2065006610 abstract "The application of behavioral techniques for the reorientation of sexual desires in pedophiliacs increased exponentially in the 1970s. More than 20 different procedures have been implemented to modify sexual preference and increase heterosocial and homosocial skills. The present paper begins with information on the definition, incidence, characterization and harmfulness of pedophilia. The bulk of the article summarizes integral components of the behavioral treatment strategies, discusses the effectiveness and deficiencies among them, compares their results with research on reorienting homosexuals and outlines some of the ethical issues involved in pedophilic reorientation procedures. A review of 32 behavioral studies since 1960 indicates a great deal of published success in developing more appropriate sexual activity in pedophiliacs. A distinction is made between apparent statistical significance and the actual clinical meaningfulness of these approaches." @default.
