- W2065198739 abstract "Abstract Artificially dried ryegrass, untreated and ammonia-treated wheat straw were ground and incubated in nylon bags in the rumen of three sheep, each fed with diets based on roughage or concentrate. Dry matter degradability (DMD) and major elements release (mineral release, MR) were measured after 0 (washing loss), 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h rumen incubation time. Dry matter degradability, the mineral content of residues (MC) and MR were significantly influenced by the kind of incubated feed, incubation time and feeding of sheep. After 48 h incubation time, the respective DMD of grass, straw and ammonia-treated straw amounted to 79.3%, 42.5% and 59.5% on average. The lowest content of residues (0.04-0.88 g kg −1 dry matter (CM)) and the highest release (92.5–99.6% of incubated amount) were measured for potassium. There were large differences between the incubated feeds in MC in the residues and MR from the bags. Residue concentrations of sodium, calcium magnesium and phosphorus increased with longer incubation time, but in the case of straw the increase was higher than in grass. Minerals and microbes flow in the bags and adhere to straw residues. The inflow of calcium and phosphorus was higher than their release, especially when roughage had been fed." @default.
