This chapter discusses a a novel estimation method to evaluate coal conversion as the total of each maceral conversion predicted by using reflectance distribution. Liquefaction was carried out in tubing bomb reactors under 50 kg/cm2 initial hydrogen pressure at 450°C for 40 min without catalyst. Reflectance measurement of each maceral, carried out on all the coal samples used, involved a 400 point-count at random. This method aims to calculate the conversion of a coal sample as the total of each maceral conversion. This method can predict not only conversion to cycrohexane soluble but also conversion to toluene or THF soluble." @default.
