- W2065426311 abstract "Summary Autoradiographic studies of the pancreas after partial ligation of the pancreatic duct in rats after administration of thymidine H 3 revealed that the regeneration in different tissue constituents was considerably greater in the atrophic than in the non-atrophie part of the pancreas. The regeneration was most increased in ductules, ducts and buds arising from them, and to a lower degree within the islets and mainly concerned the peripheral cells. Quantitative autoradiographic findings, combined with cytological observations, supported the hypothesis that a regeneration of islet cells takes place in atrophie pancreas after duct-ligation through neogenesis from precursor cells in ductules and ducts via buds and in a neogenetic zone in the islet periphery, in the main in conformity with the neogenesis of foetal islet cells. Quantitatively, however, the last step in the islet cell regeneration after duct-ligation seems to be considerably less intense than in foetal pancreas. The part played by replication by islet cells in the regeneration after ductligation cannot be determined definitely. The regenerative capacity in the atrophie part of the pancreas diminished with time after ductligation, at least in regard to islet cells. No such reduction was found in the non-atrophic part. In spite of the marked regenerative activity in the atrophie part of the pancreas the regressive processes with loss of cells and atrophy predominates, resulting in continuous reduction of the pancreatic tissue as a whole after the duct-ligation." @default.
