- W2065680463 abstract "Abstract Experimental observations by Herschitz and Seidman on neutron irradiated W–Re alloys are analysed. Recognising their proposed W2, WRe and Re2 dumbbells, for the interstitials produced by the irradiation, it is deduced that the observed formation of approximately WRe platelet clusters in a 10% alloy, and WRe3 ones in a 25%Re alloy, is due to preferential migration of WRe dumbbells and to the conversion of a fraction of these to W2 and Re2 ones as they enter a platelet. The segregation into platelets is driven by the reduction in interstitial misfit strain energy which occurs when interstitials group into flat platelets. The significance of this for future fusion power plants is briefly noted." @default.
