- W2066162355 abstract "Abstract 1. 1. Incorporation of 32 P into total rRNA of rat adrenals and liver follows similar kinetics, and the specific activity of rRNA from both organs is of the same order at all periods of labeling up to the 8th day. The turnover of rRNA in adrenals is identical to that in liver with a half-life of 5 days. Labeling of rRNA in adrenals and liver is not in direct correlation with the labeling of inorganic phosphate and total free nucleotides in these organs. 2. 2. The main components in total, cytoplasmic and nuclear RNA of adrenals are the 28-S, 18-S and 4-S species. The 28 S 18 S ratio is 2.18 for total RNA and 2.53 for cytoplasmic RNA. The nucleotide composition of total rRNA of adrenals gives a G+C A+U ratio of 1.53, whereas this ratio for cytoplasmic rRNA is 1.63. The nucleotide composition of both total and cytoplasmic rRNA of adrenals is identical with that of rRNA from other rat tissues. 3. 3. Two rapidly labeled RNA fractions, forming broad peaks of approx. 45 S and 31 S, are detected in total RNA of adrenals. These fractions are of nuclear origin and correspond to rRNA precursors typical of animal tissues. The label in cytoplasmic RNA is localized in the 28-S and 18-S rRNA components. At short-term labeling the G+C A+U ratio, determined by 32 P-distribution analysis, is 0.89 for total rRNA and 0.98 for cytoplasmic rRNA. These results are discussed, and it is suggested that detectable amounts of unstable messenger RNA are not present in the cytoplasm of rat adrenals." @default.
