- W2066367023 abstract "Summary The present study investigated the effect of verbal pain feedback on the aggressive behavior of intoxicated and nonintoxicated Ss. Forty male American undergraduates competed in a reaction-time task in which they could hurt and/or be hurt by their opponent by means of electric shock. In the low feedback condition, the confederate (C) emitted low intensity groans whenever he received a shock. In the high feedback condition, C verbally expressed a great deal of pain and discomfort. The Ss who ingested alcohol were found to be more aggressive than the Ss who received a placebo cocktail. High pain feedback only reduced the shock settings of nonintoxicated Ss. Ss with high blood alcohol concentrations tended to behave more aggressively in the high feedback condition than the low feedback condition. It was concluded, that pain feedback is not an effective means of controlling the aggressive behavior of intoxicated Ss." @default.
