- W2066466493 abstract "The research and development (R&D) activities of developing countries need to be closely linked to the promotion of national industry. While describing the experiences of Japan, Korea and India in their respective development of indigenous technologies and the adaptation of imported ones, the author examined strategies, legal measures, and tax incentives for encouraging technology development in each of these countries. Japan, with its technological excellence; Korea, with industrial entrepreneur skills; and India, with its scientific base—each has used Science and Technology in a distinctive manner to attain increased economic growth. Throughout the past five decades, India targeted the attainment of self-reliance, while Japan and Korea targeted the achievement of industrial excellence in the global market, i.e., beyond self-reliance. By understanding the experiences of Japan, Korea and India, newly industrializing and developing countries can identify their own science and technology model, decide strategies based on the availability of natural resources, raw materials, skilled manpower, and level of education, and move toward achieving greater economic development." @default.
