- W2066729897 abstract "Summary A detailed geostatistical cross section, combined with a fine-grid streamtube calculation was used to predict the improvements of the North Vickers East waterflood project in Inglewood, CA. The intent was to test the hybrid finite-difference/streamtube technique (HST) to predict workover and realignment in a complex reservoir that was not easily modeled by conventional methods. Results indicate that HST may offer a method to represent the performance of such reservoirs without conventional history matching. Introduction Recent publications have discussed methods of incorporating geostatistics into reservoir simulations with explanations of the underlying principles. Refs. 1 through 3 describe the theory and application of fractal geostatistics to reservoir description. Ref. 4 describes the HST in detail and specifies how fractal geostatistics is implemented in the development of heterogeneous cross-sectional models to improve reservoir performance prediction. Refs. 3, 5, and 8 describe the geostatistical approach to reservoir characterization and use of conditional simulations of reservoir heterogeneity to address scale averaging of flow properties and process performance. Refs. 4 through 7 demonstrated that the HST is feasible for waterflood and CO2 flood simulations and reduces history-match and computer costs. This study applies the HST with reasonable success to a complex reservoir that has undergone well realignment and workover. In this study, a representative geologic cross section between an injector/producer pair is created from log and core data and fractal geostatistics. A finite-difference black -oil simulator incorporates this cross section to calculate displacement efficiency and vertical sweep. Six streamtube models were developed to represent areal conformance for the six distinct periods of reservoir development and production improvements. The 3D performance is obtained by mapping the cross-sectional fractional-flow solutions along the length of each streamtube." @default.
