- W2067083733 abstract "Abstract A sensitive, specific method for secondary nitroparaffins (of which 2-nitropropane is the only one used commercially as a solvent) is presented. In this new method, 2-nitropropane is decomposed to nitrous acid by treatment with concentrated sulfuric acid. The resulting nitrous acid is combined with resorcinol to form a deep red-blue color suitable for quantitative measurement at a wave length of 560 μ. Amounts as little as three to five micrograms may be determined with an expected accuracy of plusmn;5% and a precision of plusmn;1%. Primary nitroparaffins decompose to hydroxylamine under the conditions of the test and do not interfere with the determination of 2-nitropropane." @default.
