- W2067148818 abstract "Several analytical/numerical problems of inviscid transonic aerodynamics are discussed. In the transonic flow range, where the Mach number is close to one, the flows are dominated by nonlinear effects. For an airplane flying in a uniform stream the drag rises precipitously as the Mach number far upstream approaches one. Thus there is a great interest in analyzing the transonic range of flight and especially in the question of the design of reduced drag aerodynamic shapes. Ultimately, due to the nonlinearity involved, all solutions must be computed numerically; however, analysis can clarify the situation immensely, generate exact solutions to simplified problems or in local regions, and guide numerical vwk. The usefulness of asymptotics is demonst ated via analysis of the Stabilization Law a. i of choked flow about an obstacle in a wide wind tunnel. Lifting line theory and the transonic area rule are outlined using asymptotics and small disturbance theory. Finally, axisymmetric flow of a gas from a nozzle is examined using full potential theory." @default.
