- W2067189751 abstract "Abstract Competition in the aerospace industry is leading to an increased need for computation with high fidelity flow models in the analysis and design of aircraft. This in turn leads to a demand for high performance computational methods, particularly fast solvers for the large sparse nonlinear systems that result from implicit discretizations of the governing equations of the models. This special issue is devoted to the work by researchers in aerospace, computer science, and applied mathematics to harness the computational power of today's parallel computers to these high performance computing needs of the aerospace industry. The articles in the special issue discuss the implementation and performance of parallel computational methods for high fidelity flow models in industrial-scale programs. They highlight the issues that are bottlenecks to scalability, and describe the techniques and tools that can be used to achieve scalable parallel performance, including compiler directives, message passing, parallel languages, and parallel libraries. Several of the articles present a two-level parallel strategy for achieving fast scalable parallel solvers on today's parallel computers." @default.
