- W2067213728 abstract "AbstractThe numbers and size of WRe platelets, observed by Herschitz and Seidman in neutron irradiated W–Re alloys, are analysed. The driving force for these precipitates of interstitial W–Re discs is provided by the large misfit energy of a WRe dumbbell. Through the migrations and meetings of mobile single WRe dumbbells, double (2WRe) unions of dumbbells form homogeneously, which subsequently grow, as triples (3WRe) and then as augmented triples, by the addition of more WRe singles until they eventually become observable as platelets. The lifetime and hence size of a platelet is limited by the destructive effect of thermal spikes produced by nearby neutron induced cascades. The numbers and size of the platelets are approximately estimated. The significance for tungsten components in future fusion power plants is briefly noted." @default.
