Cell number, protein, RNA and DNA reach steady-state concentrations after four days; these concentrations are constant at low dilution ratios and fall off at higher dilution ratios to zero at the maximum growth rate. The output of each increases linearly with dilution ratio, passes through a maximum, and falls sharply to zero at the maximum growth rate. In steady-state, the cells produce minimal amounts of lactic and α-oxo acids, and the glucose consumption per cell is constant. At the lowest dilution ratio, presuned lack of oxygen has altered these metabolic characteristics. The yield of cell protein nitrogen relative to the utilisation of amino acid nitrogen is constant at different dilution ratios." @default.
