When dealing with complex and large-sized models, some form of approximate reanalysis is typically performed. In this work, the performance of structural dynamic modification (SDM) and sensitivity method approximation is assessed with respect to approximation accuracy. It will be demonstrated that SDM estimates of natural frequencies are generally better than that estimated using sensitivity-based methods. However, the sensitivity-based method estimates of the mode shapes are usually better that the SDM estimates. Finally, a new iterative SDM method is proposed based on the subspace iteration eigensolver algorithm. This iterative approach typically provides better estimates of both natural frequencies and mode shapes than that estimated using sensitivity method." @default.
