- W2068202397 abstract "Gault fossils, mainly ammonites, collected from brash in the poorly exposed area between Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard, can be fitted in to the detailed Gault stratigraphy established in the Leighton Buzzard area. Fossils, mostly phosphatized, are locally common — the richest source being the sub-varicosum and associated nodule beds close to the base of the Upper Gault. In the northern part of the area, much of the outcrop is obscured by drift deposits, but on the valley sides, there is sufficient fossil material to establish that the outcrop is more extensive than shown on the existing geological map. Similarly, in the largely drift-free area further south, two large outliers (at Weedon and Burston) are recognized. Evidence for downcutting by the sub-varicosum bed has been found at several localities." @default.
