- W2068249570 abstract "This paper is concerned with the overlap of an analyte absorption line with the corresponding emission line of the analyte and with a nearby emission line of another element. Spectral line overlaps between two elements were seldom reported in graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Atomization under pressure seems to increase the Lorentz broadening of the analyte absorption line, thus decreasing peak absorbance and in some cases integrated absorbance when the analyte emission line is used. The broadening of the absorption lines as a function of pressure can be used as a means to control the degree of spectral line overlap with the emission line of another element. The sensitivity of the determinations may be varied at will by changing the atomization pressure. Because of the red shift that accompanies the Lorentz broadening, the overlaps of absorption lines with the emission line of another element are more important when the absorption line has a shorter wavelength than the emission line." @default.
