- W2070169937 abstract "Sodium penetration in the carbon lining of the aluminum electrolysis cell is an important cause of cell failure and efficiency loss. This phenomenon and its consequences are reviewed. The review presents a survey of the most recent literature on sodium penetration, its interaction with carbon, the formation of sodium intercalation compounds and the effects of inserted sodium on the behaviour and properties of the materials. The review also demonstrates that much work still needs to be carried out, particularly on a fundamental basis, in order to clearly understand and control this phenomenon. @default.
