- W2070312944 abstract "Concordance among multiple indepen? dent data sets is the strongest form of cor? roboration for a phylogeny estimate (Mi? yamoto and Cracraft, 1991). Nuclear gene sequences are a potentially vast source of such data sets and can complement infer? ences from such sources as morphology and organellar DNA. Apart from ribosomal genes, however, almost no nuclear genes have yet emerged as widely applicable phylogeny indicators (Harrison, 1991:302). As a step toward niling this gap, we report identification of 14 nuclear genes that, un? der a set of criteria reflecting both se? quence conservation and gene structure, appear suitable for higher level phyloge? netic analyses over a broad range of taxa. These candidate genes were selected through comparisons of known sequences from Drosophila melanogaster and some? times other holometabolous insects with" @default.
