- W2071336706 abstract "Abstract Temperature-programmed desorption spectra of D2O and Na adsorbed on aluminum and aluminum oxide are presented. D2O adsorbs associatively as well as dissociatively on the Al(100) surface, except at low exposures ( Sodium adsorbs on the clean Al(100) surface in two forms: a monolayer strongly interacting with the substrate and multilayers, characterized by Na-Na bonds. Na-Na interaction dominates desorption spectra on an Al(100)/Al2O3 surface, produced by dry oxidation and reminiscent of α-alumina. This indicates clustering of metallic sodium on dehydrogenated alumina. Wet oxidation followed by annealing at 700 K produces a surface with properties akin to those of the dry oxide. The sodium dispersion improves markedly if surface hydroxyl groups are left intact, as is the case if the annealing is terminated at 350 K. The interaction between OH groups and sodium produces a highly dispersed and strongly interacting surface phase. This phase is stable to above 700 K. Pre-deposition of sodium atoms on the surface is favorable to the D2 evolution process from adsorbed D2O." @default.
