A secondary objective of this study was to experiment with the airfoil-design optimization procedure, which later could be automated. Supporting wind tunnel experiments verified the high lift capability and demonstrated that lift coefficients beyond two are achievable with such a thick airfoil. Because of the small-span, however, induced drag effects in the wind tunnel weren’t completely eliminated. Accounting for this effect by using numerical corrections indicated that reasonable drag characteristics are possible." @default.
