- W2071662871 abstract "The effects of the mixing ratio of zircon (ZrSiO 4 ) and calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ) powders on the synthesis and thermal reaction of their composites were investigated in the composition range, 5ZrSiO 4 – x CaCO 3 , where x =7, 13, and 19, using progressive additions of CaCO 3 to the ternary CaO:ZrO 2 :SiO 2 composition. The thermal reaction behavior of ZrSiO 4 and x CaCO 3 was evaluated using thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), density measurement, and surface morphological observation. The chemical component was evaluated using energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry. The calcium oxide ( x CaO) decomposed from the x CaCO 3 in the temperature range 600–800 °C reacted with the ZrSiO 4 , forming the final stable compounds of m -ZrO 2 , Ca 2 SiO 4 , CaZrO 3 , and Ca 3 Zr(Si 2 O 9 )O 2 , depending on the CaCO 3 ratio for ZrSiO 4 in the mixture. The reaction temperature decreased with increasing CaCO 3 content. The composites consisted of m -ZrO 2 –Ca 2 SiO 4 for the 5ZrSiO 4 −7CaCO 3 mixture, CaZrO 3 –Ca 2 SiO 4 –Ca 3 Zr(Si 2 O 9 )O 2 for the 5ZrSiO 4 −13CaCO 3 mixture, and CaZrO 3 –Ca 2 SiO 4 for the 5ZrSiO 4 −19CaCO 3 mixture. It was found that the composites showing different thermal reaction behavior could be synthesized from two different sources of ZrSiO 4 and CaCO 3 , due to the different CaO:ZrO 2 :SiO 2 ratio." @default.
