- W2071747600 abstract "Abstract 1. 1. The concentration, fatty acid composition and biosynthesis of liver phospholipids were compared in rats regenerating after a 2 3 partial hepatectomy and in intact control rats. 2. 2. The fatty acid composition of the phospholipids differed in the regenerating livers and the control livers. In the former the percentage of arachidonic acid was decreased, and the percentages of oleic and linoleic acids were increased. The fatty acid composition of the diglycerides differed in a similar way. The altered species compositions of the phosphatidyl cholines and the phosphatidyl ethanolamines were probably the result of different fatty acids available to the regenerating liver. 3. 3. Biosynthesis of phosphatidyl cholines and phosphatidyl ethanolamines was studied using [ 14 C]choline, [ 14 C]ethanolamine and [ Me - 14 C]methionine. The main differences between the regenerating and the control livers was a higher incorporation of label into monoenoic + dienoic phospholipid species in the former. 4. 4. The fatty acid composition of liver sphingomyelin also differed. In the regenerating livers the percentages of fatty acids with more than 18 carbon atoms were reduced to less than half the control value." @default.
