• W2072012042 abstract "Abstract The dynamics of a chain particles with competing and anharmonic interactions are investigated. This model exhibits a complex potential energy landscape with exponentially many metastable configurations that are in a one-to-one correspondence with sequence of pseudo-spins (Ising spins). For some pseudo-spin correlation functions, agreement is found between time and canonical averages, i.e. the system behaves ergodically with respect to these functions. The corresponding autocorrelation function exhibits non-exponential relaxation that can be fitted by a stretched exponential. The exponent, β, varies between 0.6 and 0.75 for different temperatures and the relaxation time, τ, fits well with an Arrhenius law. Simulating cooling processes, a power-law is found for the residual energy, eres(γ), as a function of the cooling rate, γ. These results are discussed in the framework of a one-dimensional kinetic Ising model which is justified microscopically." @default.
