- W2072303012 abstract "On his death Pete Lomas left a manuscript that his wife Diana, with the help of Stephen Logan and Paul Gordon, are now editing for publication. The book is called Natural Psychotherapy. Its core argument is that a great deal of human suffering is the result of an insufficiently acknowledged retreat from nature. The book as a whole offers principled resistance to the pseudo-scientific theorizing which, present in the origins of psychoanalysis, has in the grim world of audits, targets, professionalization and registration, continued, in Lomas's view, to blight psychotherapy - and much else in contemporary culture. The cultural causes of suffering in those who present themselves as patients operate equally on the therapeutic methods of many who try to help them. There are in the forms and processes of nature qualities of quiet richness and subtlety which, if we are attuned to them, afford some safeguard to our well-being. Lomas argues that we need to bring these qualities back into our thinking, into our writing and into our manner of being with those whom we wish to help." @default.
