- W2072434719 abstract "It has been found in the building trade that copper sheet in contact with moist concrete or mortar may corrode with the formation of blue or bluishgreen corrosion products. These compounds are potassium carbonatocuprates of various composition. One of them K [Cu2,2(CO3)2(OH)1,4] · 2 H2O has been identified by X-ray diffraction in comparison with the synthesized compound which was characterized. The lattice is monoclinic, spacegroup P21/n, a = 15.639 Å; b = 8.781 Å; c = 12.706 Å; β = 106.116°; Z = 8; DM = 2.88 ± 0.05 g · cm−3; Dx = 2.843 g · cm−. An indexed powder pattern is given. The experimental magnetic moment is 1.64 B.M. Thermal analysis reveals decomposition in three stages. At 170°C the compound looses 1.7 H2O without change of structure, at 250°C an amorphous intermediate compound has formed and at 650°C the decomposition yields CuO + K2CO3. The infrared spectrum of the original compound and of the intermediate at 250°C was taken and the bands were provisionally assigned. Two further potassium carbonatocuprates which occur likewise as corrosion products were characterized by their powder patterns." @default.
