- W2072596166 abstract "<h2>Abstract</h2> A study of the disappearance of chlormadinone acetate (CAP) from the plasma of women after an I.V. injection of 1 α-3H-CAP showed that the steroid and its metabolites disappeared rapidly initially with a half-life of 2.40 hours followed by a slow rate of disappearance with a half-life of 80.1 hours. The radioactivity present in the plasma specifically as CAP was analysed by TLC which showed an initial rapid disappearance with a half-life of 81.8 hours. The pattern of disappearance of CAP in the plasma is similar to that of estradiol and progesterone but differs from these hormones in that the half-life of CAP is much longer. The disappearance curve has been interpreted on the basis of a two-compartment model. The metabolic clearance rate of CAP has been found to be 126.6 litres/day indicating a slow clearance of the steroid from the body. The results permitted the calculation of plasma level of CAP which was found to be 0.45 ng/ml. Biological potency of this concentration of CAP in the blood is about 3 times more than that of the luteal phase levels of progesterone. The possibility of action of this concentration of CAP in the control of fertility is discussed." @default.
