There are a number of barriers to their integration within mainstream society, but social barriers are probably the most difficult to overcome. To understand better the nature of these barriers, this paper explores ablebodied and disabled persons' communication as a form of intercultural communication. This was facilitated by an application of Rohrlich's three-tier model of intercultural communication, that is the intrapersonal, interpersonal, and systematic levels of intercultural communication. The paper concludes with implications of the model for organizing extant research and recommendations for the improvement of ablebodied/disabled communication. Il y a de nombreuses barrières qui empèchent leur intégration dans la société dominante, mais ce sont les barrières sociales qui sont les plus difficiles à franchir. Afin de mieux comprendre la nature de ces barrières, nous examinerons, comme une forme de communication interculturelle, la communication entre valides et handicapés. Notre tâche est facilitée grâce à l' application du Modèle de communication interculturelle de Rohrlich (1983) à trois niveaux: c'est-à-dire, l' intrapersonnel, l' interpersonnel et le systémique. Nous terminerons notre exposé en examinant les implications du modèle vis-à-vis des recherches existantes et en offrant des recommendations pour l' amélioration de la communication entre valides et handicapés. Para ellos exists un gran número de obstáculos hacia la integración social, y de éstos, tal vez los obstáculos sociales son los más difíciles de superar. Para un mayor entendimiento de estos obstáculos, llevamos a cabo una exploración de la comunicación de gente normal y la gente incapacitada fisicamente como una forma de comunicación intercultural. Para ello aplicamos el modelo de comunicación formulada por Rohrlich (1983) que incluye los tres diferentes niveles de comunicación, el intrapersonal, el interpersonal, y el systemico.
