- W2072970854 abstract "Molecular ions which have been identified in the 3200 to 6500 Å spectral region of comets include CO2+, OH+, CO+, CH+, N2+ and H2O+. All of these ions were observed in comet Halley, with OH+ having the greatest strength. Several moderately strong molecular ion features remain unidentified. A search for the ions, NH+, CS+, CS2+, OCS+, H2S+ and SH+, in the spectrum of comet Halley indicates that all were below the detection limits of the 4-m telescope at Cerro Tololo Observatory and the 3.9-m Anglo Australian Telescope. A measurement of the N2+/CO+ abundance ratio leads to a nitrogen-to-ammonia ratio in comet Halley, N2/NH3 ∼0.2, which may be indicative of significant chemical processing in the early solar nebula." @default.
