Faster and more quantitative methods for evaluating acne and acne treatments are presented. Subjects enrolled in a 1-week study by presenting with at least one acne lesion that is no more than 24 hrs old and has not been treated with any product. The following measurements are done on each target lesion at baseline, 24, 48, 72 hours, and day 7: 1)Self-assessment on target lesion(s)-subjects evaluate lesion redness, diameter, elevation, pain/discomfort, dryness2)Digital imaging-high resolution images of target lesions for expert grading3)Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS)-for oxy/deoxy-hemoglobin measurements to quantify redness/blood stasis4)Fluorescence spectroscopy-to evaluate changes in inflammation5)Spectral imaging-for visualization of erythema and edema Study results on untreated lesions show for the first time that acne lesions can be quantitatively evaluated to provide new learning on acne dynamics, and these measurements correlate with self-assessments to confirm that subjects also perceive the instrumentally measured lesion changes." @default.
