They then demonstrate that this is not the case by using an in vitro cell culture system.We did not propose that HIV protease inhibitor therapy leads to abnormal proinsulin processing. In fact, it is highly unlikely that HIV protease inhibitors, which block aspartic proteases, would interfere with the proinsulin-converting enzymes, which are serine proteases.
