- W2074812517 abstract "Abstract It has been reported earlier by the authors, using a micromechanics approach, that the material properties of cylindrically reinforced materials strongly on R /2 r f in the neighbourhood of the centre (called the core); away from the core the properties are nearly constant and are equal to those of rectilinearly reinforced composites. One of the two aims of the present experimental investigation is to verify the effect of radius on the material properties. For this, semi-circular beams, subjected to shear loads at the free ends, have been used. In order to verify the analytical results at comparatively small values of R /2 r f aluminium-epoxy semi-circular beams have been specially developed and fabricated. Experimental results obtained clearly show the effect of R /2 r f on mechanical properties in the neighbourhood of the centre and confirm the trend of variation predicted and reported earlier by the micromechanics analysis. The other objective of the present work is to examine the suitability of the earlier reported micromechanics approach for characterisation of actual composites. Experiments have been conducted on cylindrically reinforced glass-epoxy and glass-polyester composites for large values of R /2 r f . The results obtained confirm the usefulness of the analytical method in predicting the properties of the above mentioned composites." @default.
