- W2074966897 abstract "Abstract The ratio of the complex reflection coefficient ϱ = tan Ψ exp( iΔ ) has been determined for light of various wavelengths λ (320 ≤ λ ≤ 640 nm) and for films of various thickness d (0 ≤ d ≤ 8 nm). The point that represents ϱ [ = ϱ ( λ , d )] moves the complex ϱ-plane as λ or d is changed. The trajectories ϱ d (λ) which the point ϱ describes with the change in λ, d being fixed, exhibit the following features: (1) In every ϱ d (λ) trajectory, there is a kink, which may be degenerated into a cusp or a distinct bend, at λ k = 480 nm for Au and at λ k = 520 nm for Cu films, i.e., at wavelengths close to respective absorption edges λ a (≈ 500 nm for Au, ≈ 600 nm for Cu). (2) For λ a ϱ is insensitive to the island size, while for λ > λ a it is influenced by the island size. (3) No kinks have been found in ϱ d (λ) for Ag, most probably because the lower limit of λ in this study was close to λ a for Ag (≈ 320 nm). Feature (2) can be explained by considering that plasma oscillation is dominant for λ > λ a , while interband transition is dominant for λ a ." @default.
