- W2075322275 abstract "R ertically deficient alveolar ridges represent a chalenge for appropriate prosthetic rehabilitation. Curently, osteointegrated implant use is the most popuar treatment modality in such cases, but it offers ome augmentation techniques before implant placeent. Autogenous bone grafts increase morbidity and re prone to unpredictable resorption. Vertical osteoistraction is an alternative method for alveolar ridge ugmentation of the deficient ridges. Ilizarov established callus distraction of endohondral long bones in orthopedics. McCarthy et l first used osteodistraction in craniofacial skeleon in 1991; applying the distractor to the mandile. In 1995, McCarthy et al presented mandibular engthening with intraoral distractor devices. More ecently, a procedure has been used for the imrovement of bone volume before the implant lacement. However, follow-ups with computed omography showed a semilunar excavation of the enerated bone in the distraction gap. Upon clinical nspection during distractor extraction, generally he migration of fibrous connective tissue through he distraction gap was obvious. Various types of embranes can be used for callus protection. This echnical note reports the treatment modality aplied to a 20-year-old woman with a large vertical efect after cyst operation at the mandibular anteior region (Fig 1)." @default.
