• W2075344581 abstract "AS you certainly know I took over the responsibility for our Journal Cytometry Part A at the beginning of this year. It was a great honor to be selected from a group of excellent and scientifically high-ranking competitors. The workload and the number of new things to learn and to understand in order to serve at my best for the Journal and the Society have been substantial. Therefore, I have not found the time until today to address my first message and report to you about the number of improvements we were able to make. You are seeing many of the results of our work in this issue of Cytometry Part A. Before explaining the news I wish to express my gratitude to the previous Editor-in-Chief of Cytometry Part A, Chuck Goolsby (1). He guided the Journal through difficult times, doing excellent work and passed the Journal over to me in a good state. I would also like to give my thanks to our Associate Editors, Editorial Board Members, and reviewers doing tremendous and high quality work. But most of all I wish to thank the authors: without your exciting work our Journal would not exist. The cover of this issue highlights that from now on Cytometry Part A has a new face with new features and a modified appearance of the publications. This merged art and science image symbolizes the major idea behind cytometry and what Cytometry Part A represents. This cover has been designed in the spirit of the painter Piet Mondrian to reflect the broad versatility of what cytometry can be. Cytometry is the scientific discipline of quantitative and stoichiometric single cell analysis. It is not restricted to cells but also includes analysis of tissues (2,3), live animals (this issue, page 542), and nonmammalian organisms such as plants (4) and microbes (5), among others. Cytometry is by tradition also the technology needed to perform these analyses. This is of course flow cytometry, but also quantitative imaging and automation (6), spectraland hyperspectral analyses (7–9), standardization and quality control (10) with all the mathematics needed for analysis (11). Finally, due to the high-throughput and high-content analytical methods applied, Cytometry Part A is the natural harbor for systemic cell analysis; most of all Cytomics (12,13) and related systemic cell-based approaches such as Location Proteomics (14) and Toponomics (15)." @default.
