- W2075386553 abstract "Abstract A process for conversion of corn starch to syrup is reported. The effects of particle size, hydration (solids-to-water) ratio, level of substitution of corn with malted sorghum, and level of exogenous alpha-amylase on the saccharification efficiency of the process were studied in a 2 4 factorial experiment. A tentative linear model was fitted. Preponderance of cross-product terms in the linear model expression indicated that a better approximation may he expected from a higher degree polynomial model. A central composite orthogonal design was employed to fit a quadratic model. Factors and levels studied were hydration ratios of 1:3.3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6 and 1:6.7 (wt/vol), levels of substitution of corn with malted sorghum at O.O, O.1, 0.25, 0.4 and 0.5, and hydrolysing temperatures of 57, 60, 65, 70°C. The quadratic model was sabjected to testing by analysis of variance and found adequate. The empirical model may be generalized to facilitate optimization and control of the conversion process." @default.
