In particular, it is shown that a general analysis may be made without explicit reference to any long-range internal stress, but that this stress must be known if the intrinsic energy of dislocation-obstacle interaction is to be obtained. The precise thermodynamic interpretation of experimental parameters is shown to depend on the class of local obstacle. For jogs and dispersed point obstacles, the analysis is general and relatively simple. For Peierls and cross-slip processes, the interpretation is critically dependent on the theoretical model adopted." @default.
