- W2076332890 abstract "Introduction: Laparoscopy and liver biopsy are diagnostic methods used in patients with hepatitis B and C infection with protracted evolution. The direct visualization of the liver, regular, irregular or nodular surface and the histologic study of the liver tissue are necessary from the correct diagnosis and for the decision of the therapeutic to be used in the affected patients. Aims: Determinate more frequent histological and laparoscopical features in both groups Methods: 94 children less than 16 years old of both sexes were studied and submitted for laparoscopy and liver biopsy during a period of 10 years. All had positive Hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg) on antibodies for Hepatitis C virus (HVCAb) detected by ELISA method; in a course of hepatitis that lasted more than 6 months or family screening. The laparoscopy was performed with a pediatric laparoscope of 5 mms diameter and oblique vision and the liver biopsy was done with the Menghini needle, under general anesthesia or sedation endovenous (Sulfate of Ketamin). Results: Of the children studied 85 (90,4%) had positive HbsAg and 9 (9,5%) had positive HCVAb. 33 Inflammatory liver was the most frequent laparoscopic diagnosis with HBsAg (38.8%), and signs of chronic hepatitis in 26 patients (30,7%). The predominant histologic lesion in this group was 61 chronic hepatitis (71,7 %). The laparoscopy was performed in 9 children with HVCAb, being normal in seven of them (77.7%). Minimum hepatocyte damage was the most frequent histologic lesion in this group (89 %). No chronic liver lesion was observed in none of them. Conclusion: We observed good relationship between histological and laparoscopic features in both groups. Predominant severe lesions in patient hepatitis B infection and light lesions in hepatitis C infection. We considered the laparoscopy and the liver biopsy as very useful methods in the diagnosis and follow up of chronic viral hepatitis, to stagier the disease and to determinate the prognostic." @default.
